OLDHAM U14’s RETAIN NATIONAL TITLE

The top 18 teams from the 9 regions of England gathered at the Sugden Centre in Manchester over the weekend to compete for the Under 14 Netball National Club Championships. Oldham Netball Club already had possession of the trophy as reigning champions from last year.

Oldham’s U14’s had arrived at the finals as both the Greater Manchester County Champions and the North West Regional Champions winning every game in both the county and regional leagues.

The Oldham girls started their group matches with a convincing win against Northants JM winning 22 – 1. Oldham progressed well throughout their group matches with victories against CD Phoenix 18 – 6, Turnford 15 – 9, Fenton Manor 24 – 9 and Telestars 21 – 7.

Oldham finished the first group stage as group winners and were then regrouped to compete for position 1 to 6. The next game was Oldham versus Leeds Carnegie and it proved to be a tight match to start with, but the Oldham girls soon got back into the groove and pulled away in the 2nd half producing a convincing victory 19 – 7.

Top Midlands based club Parkside who won the U16 title 2 weeks ago were Oldhams next match. They were dispatched without too much trouble 19 – 10.

The final was against Hertfordshire based Turnford who Oldham had beaten in the earlier group games. The Oldham girls showed no nerves and produced a fantastic display of attacking netball to win the final 18 – 10 and retain the National Title.
