Oldham’s Under 14 girls are already the National Champions and all the other teams were gunning for them.
Day one of the tournament saw the Oldham youngsters win all their 8 group games and progress into the cup competition as number one seeds in their group.
Day two and they kept up the pace winning all three games in the group stage and secure progress to the knockout round.
Oldham met old rivals Turnford from Hertfordshire in the semi final, with only 40 seconds left to play and trailing by 3 goals the Oldham girls staged one of the most amazing comebacks in the clubs 23 year history. Somehow they managed to level the game and take it in to extra time. They then carried on the momentum and won the game 13 – 11.
The final brought Poole from Dorset and in a hard fought battle managed to win by one goal 5 – 4. Team manager Cathy Whitworth said “The girls were tremendous all weekend and deserved to win the competition. We had a few hairy moments but the players showed fantastic determination and kept their nerve. I’m so proud of all of them”
